Mid to West is a collective of dance artists who completed the MFA program at the University of Iowa and are now making and producing work in the Bay Area.
REBECCA CHUN has earned an MFA in Dance from the University of Iowa and a BA in Dance, Dramatic Arts from the University of California at Berkeley. She has had the great pleasure to perform with Aura Fishbeck, Rebecca Wilson, Mary Armentrout, Nina Haft and Company, Mo Miner, The Riley Project, and Dana Lawton, among other choreographers. She has taught dance and yoga in the Bay Area and at the University of Iowa. Her classes emphasize the unique experience of the individual. Her research and choreography explore the human condition, and she is interested in making dances that foster change, bit by bit.
SARAH GENTA is a dancer, teacher and aspiring dance writer who earned a B.A. in English Education from Illinois State University and an M.F.A in dance from the University of Iowa. Prior to moving to the Bay Area, she taught as an adjunct professor at Illinois State University. She has performed in work by Alexandra Beller, Trisha Brown, Mo Miner, Jennifer Kayle, Charlotte Adams and Sara Semonis, and in improvisations with Amy Barr and Sarah Gonsiorowski. She has taught movers from age 5 to age 50 and has currently been teaching youth in Marin and Berkeley. She writes about dance improvisation and new dance works.
MO MINER received her B.S. in Psychology at Western Illinois University and her MFA in Dance Performance at the University of Iowa. In the Bay Area she has performed with Fog Beast, Katie Faulkner's little seismic dance company, Paufve Dance, Nina Haft & Company, Jessica Damon, and Bandaloop. Her choreography has been seen at Bare Bones, Watchword Press presents The Whole Story, the Dance IS Festival, and Shotwell Studios, and has been commissioned by College Preparatory School, University of San Francisco, and the Shawl-Anderson Youth Ensemble. Mo currently teaches at the University of San Francisco, SF Dance Center, and Shawl-Anderson Dance Center, and coordinates the Shawl-Anderson Youth Ensemble.
KATE VIGMOSTAD earned her B.A. in Fine Art from Maharishi University of Management, and her M.F.A in Dance from the University of Iowa in 2010, where she was awarded the prestigious Iowa Arts Fellowship. Prior to her move to the Bay Area, Kate danced in orginal and restaged works by: Jennifer Kayle, Armando Duarte, Lynn Andrews, Frey Faust, and others. Since graduating from Iowa, Kate has worked with Becca Rozzell, and The Riley Project in San Francisco, and has produced her own work at home in Iowa, and had her choreography shown in Korea. Kate is a certified teacher of Yoga, and instructed at-risk San Francisco youth both yoga and meditation from 2010 - 2013. Kate now teaches contemporary dance to kids, teens, and adults at Roco Dance and Fitness in Marin County. Kate also works as a freelance video-editor and photographer.
