Hardcore Listening with Walrus Improv
Much like being a good human, great improv isn't about being funny and making witty remarks. It's about being a really good listener and connecting with your scene partner(s) on every level. In this workshop, members of Walrus Improv will lead participants through exercises pulled from the world of improv, storytelling, and interpersonal communication research. We'll look at these questions:
How often does someone actually hear what you think you're saying?
What happens if we take away the words? Can we still listen to all that subtext when we put the words back in?
What should we pay attention to beyond just the facts in a scene?
Where can we take a scene when we're reacting beyond just verbal communication?
The members of Walrus Improv have each been practicing, performing, and teaching improv for a decade. Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the troupe has developed their own unique style that they implement in both long and short form productions throughout the Twin Cities.
