Southpaw Beer Styles 101
This class is a comprehensive guide to understanding various beer styles and what ingredients make them unique. Our head brewer at Southpaw, Phil Cutti, will be tasting guests through 10 different beers that encompass a variety of popular styles.
The class will be broken into four sections:
Learn how the water, malt, hops and yeast affect the taste, alcohol content and/or appearance of different beer styles.
2) Light Colored Beers
We'll taste through three types of light beer: Kölsch, Pilsner & Wheat and analyze, discuss, and appreciate their distinct differences.
3) Dark Colored Beers
We'll sample through a Brown Ale, a Porter and a Stout discussing their distinct similarities and subtle differences.
We love our IPA's in California. As we sip through a single, double, triple and a Belgian IPA, Phil will guide us through how the grain bill, hops and yeast play a large role in the varying flavor profile and alcohol content of these similar beers.
