Bluegrass Underground with Steep Ravine, Renegade Stringband and Black Crown Stringband
Steep Ravine (9:45pm-11pm)
Steep Ravine's sound conjures up an authentic slice of Northern California spirit, combining the energy and drive of bluegrass with the heart and soul of folk and roots music. The band features the string-playing ingenuity of guitarist Simon Linsteadt, violinist Jan Purat, mandolinist Andy O'Brien, and upright bassist Alex Bice.
Renegade Stringband plays hard driving bluegrass on stages and in the streets. Their repertoire runs the gamut from original ballads to covers of songs by the Black Keys, Woody Guthrie, Tom Waits, and Ella Fitzgerald. From their base in Portland, Oregon, the band has been touring the west coast since 2010
Black Crown Stringband
Black Crown Stringband is the latest supergroup to emerge from the fertile SF Bay-Area bluegrass and old-timey scene. Comprised of founding members of the Earl Brothers, the Mercury Dimes and Windy Hill, the Crown first appeared at the 2008 Berkeley Old-Time Convention Stringband Contest where their hard-driving sound earned them first prize.
Black Crown combine the best elements of old-time stringband music and Bill Monroe's "high lonesome" sound to create a unique fusion that is at once old-school and brand spanking new.
Whether playing a festival, square-dance or your private event, Black Crown Stringband deliver their music with high energy, soul and some serious skills.
