Visions of Peace, Melodia Concert Sat, Nov 23 at 7:30, Holy Apostles
Melodia Women's Choir opens its eleventh season with a spirited concert to beckon the holidays, with three major works for treble choir and a selection of jazzy arrangements. The centerpiece of the concert is Britten's beloved "A Ceremony of Carols," performed in honor of Britten's 100th birthday on November 22. Also on the program is Gustav Holst's haunting and rarely-heard "Seven part-Songs for Female Voices and Strings," and Paul Csonka's sensuous "Concierto di Navidad," sung in Spanish. Conducted by Artistic Director Cynthia Powell, Melodia's 28 singers will be joined by Taisiya Pushkar on piano and Transfiguration String Quintet. "Visions of Peace" will also be performed on Sunday November 24 at 3:00 PM at West End Collegiate Church, 245 West 77th Street, Upper West Side, NYC.
