Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Presents...
Comedy Returns to El Rio!

Now in its 5th year, this monthly (every 2nd Monday of the month) multicultural comedy show features the best of Bay Area comedians and beyond. It takes place at El Rio, where SF comedian/comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy) began her stand up comedy career 24 years ago.

This month's show features an eclectic mix of comics with cultural backgrounds from Ethiopia, Egypt, Russia, and Israel/Latvia/Italy, yet raised in San Francisco, Ohio, Palo Alto, San Diego, and New York: Yayne Abeba, Maria Shehata, Nathan Habib, Yuri Kagan, and Lisa Geduldig. Some are gay and some are straight; you decide which.

Yayne Abeba is a native San Franciscan of Ethiopian descent. She recently starred in her own one-hour TV special "Africa Laughs with Yayne Abeba" on the Africa Channel, which broadcasts throughout the US, the UK, and the Caribbean. Yayne began studying acting at the Jean Shelton Actor's Lab in 1995 and was bitten by the comedy bug four years later at The Luggage Store. Realizing that there was no cure, she accepted her fate and has since been touted as one of San Francisco's up and coming comedians. Her style is fresh, innovative, cutting edge and just damn funny. She won The 2002 Russian River Comedy Competition and competed in several SF International Comedy Competitions as well as the Seattle Comedy Competition.

Maria Shehata is an LA-based Egyptian-American comedian and actress born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. Her unlikely blend of mideast and midwest gives her a point of view that is hilarious, and unique while maintaining a distinct universality. Maria's stand up has been seen on Comedy Central's The Watch List, Just Like Us: The Movie, and Showtime's Bridging the Gap. She has been invited to perform in numerous comedy festivals, including the New York Underground Comedy Festival, the New York Arab-American Comedy Festival, The Los Angeles Middle Eastern Comedy Festival, and the San Luis Obispo Comedy Festival. With her universal appeal, she has performed all over the world including Palestine, Doha, and Paris and for the US troops in Germany, Italy, Kosovo, Turkey and the Bahamas. Maria is one of six comedians featured in "The Cradle of Comedy," a documentary on Middle Eastern comedians, set to air nationally in Australia. Currently, you can catch Maria on her weekly podcast, Little Ethnic Girls, on RadioTitans.com. www.mariashehata.com

Nathan Habib is one of the youngest comics in the business. His comedy is intelligent and performed with an awkwardly confident attitude. Born in Belgium and raised in Palo Alto, Nathan was brought up in a Jewish Israeli household with a Latvian mother, an Italian raised dad, giving him plenty of diversity and experience to talk about. Nathan graduated from UC Santa Cruz last year and has been doing comedy since his freshman year of high school. He has performed all over the Bay Area with comics such as Arj Barker, Rich Vos, and Robert Duchaine and has recently begun performing in LA.

Yuri Kagan is a nice Jewish boy or at least that's what it says on the JDate profile his mother created for him.  He grew up in San Diego where he learned that while other people tan, he ignites. He moved to San Francisco to get a degree in bad habits and telling jokes. Yuri is a dry-humor, observational, dead-pan comedian who talks about growing up with an entire family from the Soviet Union without holding anything back. He performs all over the country on any stage that will let him.

Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer who's the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy (which celebrated its 20th anniversary last December); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion.

Must be over 21 as it's a bar.  Tickets on sale on a sliding scale basis: $7 to $20.
