Andrei Cherny: THE CANDY BOMBERS The Untold Story of the Berlin Airlift and America's Finest Hour
In June of 1948, a small group of Americans, with few resources and against all expectations, took on the much larger forces of the Soviet Union, who had cut off access to West Berlin in a bid to extend its power. While most top U.S. officials were prepared to abandon the city considering the mission hopeless, President Harry Truman and an unlikely group of supporters improvised a response. THE CANDY BOMBERS describes the unprecedented combination of military and moral force that characterized the airlift, which fed half the city for more than a year, avoided WWIII, won the hearts of America's defeated enemies, and inspired people around the world to believe in America's fundamental goodness.
