Liz Robbins: A RACE LIKE NO OTHER: 26.2 MILES THROUGH THE STREETS OF NEW YORK
This narrative of the 2007 New York City Marathon is filled with history and drama and the timeless story of human striving. Acclaimed NEW YORK TIMES sportswriter Liz Robbins captures the enormity of the race through the prism of five representative athletes--professionals and beginners, winner and losers--and the experiences that brought them to the starting line. She also captures the spirit of a great city through the neighborhoods and local characters whose paths the race crosses. From the race's charismatic founder, Fred Lebow, a Romanian Holocaust survivor who directed the race through Brooklyn to honor his traditions and enliven the neighborhood, to the new generations of recreational runners who join the competition each year, A RACE LIKE NO OTHER captures the excitement and meaning of a world class event.
