Ezra Cappell: AMERICAN TALMUD: THE CULTURAL WORK OF JEWISH AMERICAN FICTION
"What's Jewish about Jewish-American writing?" This is the question Dr. Ezra Cappell addresses in AMERICAN TALMUD, his scholarly but accessible study of the Jewish-American tradition in fiction writing. Cappell, who is Assistant Professor of English and Director of the Inter-American Jewish Studies program at the University of Texas at El Paso, explores the writings of Henry Roth, Bernard Malamud, Saul Bellow, Rebecca Goldstein, Allegra Goodman and others for connections to the long textual tradition in Judaism that begins with the Bible and Rabbinic texts.
