Grammy Nominee and Grand Ole Opry Performer
Mention John Berry's name to just about any country music lover and the response will likely be, "What an awesome vocalist!" John Berry is one of the most powerful and distinctive voices in country music; a stunningly rich, majestic tenor that he uses to its full effect.
With multiple gold and platinum albums and nominations from the Country Music Association, the Academy of Country Music, and the Grammy's, he has clearly forged an appreciation from the music industry and fans alike. With a nationwide legion of loyal fans, two particular fans include former President George H. Bush and wife Barbara, who invited John to sing for Mr. Bush's birthday party.
Gravitating to both soul and country music, he began playing guitar at 13, performing shows at age 14, and making records at age 19. John recorded his own albums at home beginning in 1979, and two years later started performing solo acoustic shows in northeast Georgia and throughout the Southeast, all the time building a strong name and following. As his reputation grew, so did the demand for his self-styled recordings. Between 1979 and 1990, John recorded and marketed six albums on his own Clear Sky Records label.
Those early discs, and John's strong regional popularity attracted him attention on Nashville's Music Row. Capitol Records signed him in 1992 and it was there that he had a string of hits, including John's first #1 single "Your Love Amazes Me" (1994), with "She's Taken a Shine" an even bigger hit in 1997, and "Standing on the Edge of Goodbye" quickly following suit. Other Top 10 releases showing off John's songwriting ability and vocalization skills include:
"Change My Mind"
"I Think About It All The Time"
"If I Had Any Pride Left At All"
"Kiss Me in the Car"
"What's In It For Me"
"You and Only You"
"Give Me Back My America"
But, it was his stunning performance of "O Holy Night", the title track of his 1995 Christmas CD that led to his most enduring legacy. John Berry began doing multi-city Christmas tours in 1996, and this year will mark his 18th consecutive "John Berry Christmas" concert series.
Moving into a new phase in his career, as John has grown his commitment to his Family, love for America, and his audience deepens, and John's tenor voice remains an instrument that touches all of our hearts.
