ABOUT KEVIN KERN
Legally blind from birth, Kevin Kern has become synonymous with beautiful, melodic music. His melodies exude lyricism, simplicity, and a directness that touches the heart of the listener. The influence of lifelong friend and mentor, jazz great George Shearing, and a strong classical education enabled Kevin to develop an early love of improvisation and an appreciation for the beautiful sound a piano could produce. He continued his education at the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he studied with Fred Hersch.
One of the hallmarks of Kevin's recordings is the inclusion of piano solo pieces he refers to as "sound paintings". Spontaneously improvised in a dark- ened recording studio, Kern uses the piano to "paint" musical pictures of scenes which are often sug- gested to him in the moment, such as rowing a boat across a lake after a summer rain ("After the Rain"), or a star-filled night sky ("A Million Stars").
With Six Billboard charting releases and numerous international film and TV credits (Oprah, David Letterman, PBS, Mitsubishi), Kevin has developed a worldwide following. His concert tours take throughout the United States and Asia. Highlights have included a special performance for the G20 Summit in Seoul in 2010 and an eight city tour with "Britain's Got Talent" winner Paul Potts in 2011.
"...a master of melody and quiet emotional depth." ~ Kathy Parsons, MainlyPiano.com
"Kevin Kern sees the music other musicians can only hear." ~ Ron Brownlow, Taipei Times
