Northshore Concert Band November 3rd Concert: "Remembrance"
For this special concert Northshore Concert Band is offering specially priced $5 tickets for Friends of Northshore Concert Band.
November 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. In commemoration of that national tragedy, the concert opens with two works that celebrate this great American: Leonard Bernstein's Fanfare for the Inauguration of JFK and Ronald Lo Presti's poignant Elegy for a Young American. The concert features guest soloist Timothy McAllister, professor of saxophone and co-director of the Institute for New Music at Northwestern University, performing Concert Suite for Alto Saxophone by William Bolcom. Also on the program are Norman Dello Joio's Variants on a Mediaeval Tune and Donald Grantham's Southern Harmony. Based on a nineteenth-century songbook of hymns, psalms, odes, and anthems, Southern Harmony heightens the character and spirit of the original vocal works in a vibrant, exciting setting for winds.
November Concert Soloist: Timothy McAllister.
As saxophonist with the renowned PRISM Quartet, internationally acclaimed soloist Timothy McAllister has premiered over 100 new works by major and emerging composers. His performance highlights include a May 2010 tour with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He is the recipient of the Grand Prize/Gold Medal in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.
