MAORI HAKA FOR WOMEN with Mihirangi
MIHIRANGI is an international performer. She was a finalist (and the judges' favorite) on NZ's Got Talent 2012. She just completed a 45-concert New Zealand tour to thank her fans. She is performing next at the Haida Gwaii Edge of The World Music Fest, Queen Charlotte Islands and then the Robson Valley Music Festival, Dunster, BC.
MIHIRANGI hails from Aotearoa, Land of the Eternal Light aka New Zealand. She grew up on a Marae (traditional village) in a small place in a valley surrounded by the forests and farms of Mangapeehi, grounded in traditional Maori wisdom and profound knowledge of genealogy. Mihirangi embodies her indigenous lineage roots of Ngati Rakeiora, Ngati Waikorara, Ngati Rahiri and Ngati Raukawa descent. She is from a line of Tohunga Wahine women who were keepers of whakapapa, of spiritual knowledge and healing. She is a woman out to make a difference: musically, socially, spiritually and culturally.

Mihirangi is from a line of Tohunga Wahine women who were keepers of whakapapa, spiritual knowledge and healing.
Experience the character, heart, and spirit through haka, a powerful warrior's dance. Learn the calls, actions, words, their history, meaning, traditions, kaupapa (protocols) and mana (power). No singing or dancing experience necessary.
What is the Haka?
The Maori haka has become known around the world as a war dance, performed only by men that challenges and intimidates their opponents. Women have their own haka. There are traditional and contemporary haka for many occasions from births to deaths, ridicule and courage, from grief to joy. Women's haka expresses the potency of indigenous tradition and sacredness.
An experience of mana, the essence of power. 5-6:30 pm: A special ceremonial welcome and presentation of the haka, sharing of our accomplishments, for all the men and boys of the community husbands, fathers, grandfathers, brothers, boyfriends, cousins, uncles and friends, and also the women who were unable to attend the day.
