Still Writing: The Stories We Carry
We all carry our stories inside of us. Some stories are easier to tell than others. There are stories we polish into well-formed, amusing anecdotes, and others we bury deep until they rise up, unexpectedly, and take us by surprise. When we attempt to write these stories, we are faced with our own resistance. Our inner censor tells us that we can't write our truth or perhaps we shouldn't. Or that it's a dumb idea. Or that no one will care.
In this day-long, interactive workshop, renowned author and teacher Dani Shapiro will help us to explore the courage, persistence, and patience that are all a part of the writer's life. We will delve into the roadblocks that stop us from finding our stories and telling them. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned professional, a writer of memoir or fiction, you'll find a renewed sense of commitment to your creative self in this inspiring and thoughtful program.
Literary Affairs presents this very special writing workshop at The Peninsula Hotel with Dani Shapiro. Dani is the founder of the prestigious Sirenland Writers Conference in Positano. She has taught creative writing at the best writing programs in the country, including Columbia University, New York University, The New School, Wesleyan University, and the BreadLoaf Writers' Conference. Many of her students have gone on to publish novels and short stories. Her new book, Still Writing: The Pleasures and Perils of a Creative Life, will be published in October, 2013.
This workshop will include a copy of Still Writing, lunch, and hands-on writing exercises. Space is extremely limited.
