The Jewel Box Theatre is pleased to present one of America's most loved musicals, "Gypsy," with music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and book by Arthur Laurents. "Gypsy" runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. from September 13 until October 12. Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. on Sept. 22 (sold out) & 29 and Oct. 6 & 13.
The biographical story of the rise of Washington's own Gypsy Rose Lee has charmed audiences for decades. Set in the 1950s towards the end of vaudeville and height of burlesque, Gypsy follows iconic "stage mom" Rose and her girls June and Louise on their theatrical travels seeking stardom for Baby June and her Newsboys, including the supposedly untalented Louise. The wallflower is the one who rises to stardom. Familiar songs include "Everything's Coming Up Roses," "Together Wherever We Go," "Let me Entertain You," and "You Gotta Get a Gimmick."
