Rosemary, a new play by Seth Tankus
RiOT [productions] is a brand new company devoted to creating brand new work by and about under-represented populations. RiOT is excited to present Rosemary as our very first production!
Rosemary is about a young girl who lives in the tiny military suburb of Bremerton, WA. Her life there has been reduced to smoking pot, screwing her drug dealer, stealing cosmetics from Safeway with her best friend Thomas, and trying to survive her alcoholic mother. Lost and alone, Rosemary dreams of bigger and better things away from Bremolos and meth heads. In hopes that he can cheer her up, Thomas introduces her to an old friend of his. Rosemary and Jeremiah connect almost instantly, and when home begins to feel more like Hell, she flees to Denver to be with him. Yet what she finds in the Mile High City is everything she tried to leave behind.
Everybody knows or is Rosemary. She's that punk girl from your hometown who was dealt the worst hand, but who you know is destined for greatness. No matter your background, Rosemary's desire to escape isolation amongst the chaos of her life is universal. This story is brutally honest in its dialogue, characters, and its commitment to driving home the truth of wasted youth. Its poetry is based in rhythm, noise music, and a couple of punk rock stoners who can't get by without abusing the system they hate.
