Rita, a brash young, working class hairdresser, is seeking escape from the dull routine of her work and social life and to improve her station in life. When she enrolls at the local university, she discovers a passion for literature and turns her boozy and burnt-out professor's life upside-down in this award-winning comedy. Everyone begins to question their assumptions about their social classes in what the Boston Globe called an "effervescent crowd pleaser."
