Production Basics: Scary Cow Style! Limited Seating Available!
This workshop will teach the basic production techniques for Camera, Lighting, and Sound, as commonly used on Scary Cow shoots. Taught over the course of two nights by four filmmakers that are Scary Cow vets, this class is specifically designed for film collective members. Capacity is very limited. Only 12 tickets available, so snatch them up!
We'll begin with a short presentation about set protocol. Students will then split into two groups and spend time operating camera on Night 1, and setting up lights and capturing sound on Night 2. Each participant gets a chance to be HANDS ON with all the equipment. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be familiar with the standard filmmaking tools and protocols commonly used on Scary Cow productions, and will be ready to work on set and have enough knowledge to bring their own projects to life!
Monday 8/19: Set protocol overview & Camera with Garrett Low & Tom Krymkowski
Monday 8/26: Lighting & Sound with Bill Spafford, Stan Ng, and Michael Schrecker
Michael Schrecker has been doing location and post-production sound for ultra-low budget films for more then ten years. An early Scary Cow member, you may remember him from such films as "The Time Addict" and "Ricky Gets Rejected".
Stan Ng is an engineer who bangs code for a living. He has contributed to many award-winning Scary Cow films as DP, Boom Operator and Script Supervisor. Stan is a fixture at the Midpeninsula Community Media Center in Palo Alto, where he has been a camera operator for hundreds of television shows. He has produced dozens of short documentary and promotional videos focused on local topics.
Tom Krymkowski has been a member of Scary Cow for four years and hasn't stopped since. He has worked on the crew of over 20 short films and two feature-length projects, most of the time behind the camera as operator or Director of Photography. Before he joined Scary Cow, Tom was an audio engineer for the BBC World Service, KQED-San Francisco, and WGBH-Boston among others. Now, he considers himself first and foremost a Cinematographer.
