Over 30 years ago, there were very few options for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in our community. Reaching Maximum Independence, Inc. (RMI) was formed to help create options to enable adults who faced significant barriers to an independent life for themselves. Developing these options and creating a community where adults with IDD are accepted, included and engaged has not come without hard work and sacrifice.
Throughout the years, there have been a number of individuals in our community who have made great strides to advocate and champion for individuals with special needs. We invite you to be a part in celebrating these change makers in our community, who often work diligently in the background, without recognition. This is also an opportunity to showcase RMI and how this organization benefits our community.
RMI will recognize one such individual with a special presentation of the J. Bradley and Connie Aust Champion Award on Wednesday, September 11th. We hope you will be there to recognize the personal commitment and distinction of one who has championed the cause of people with special needs in San Antonio allowing individuals with IDD to achieve greater independence, participating fully in the community where they live, work and play.
