A Far Cry Returns to Pickman Hall!

Pickman Hall
Cambridge, MA

"FOLKLORE" will open with Bela Bartok's Romanian Folk Dances (1917), a set of 7 brief dances imbued with the gypsy spirit, transcribed for orchestra by the composer himself after the 1915 version for solo piano. Following the dances will be the St. Paul's Suite for String Orchestra (1913) by the English composer, Gustav Holst, a 4 movement suite laden with English folk tunes, notably "The Dargason" and "Greensleeves", written for his students at the St. Paul's Girls' School in London. Finishing the first half is Astor Piazzolla's 2 Tangos for String Orchestra, which display the Argentine composer's dexterous writing for the medium. And finally, the beloved E Major Serenade for String Orchestra by Antonin Dvorak will conclude the evening concert.
