BARNARD, VT -- BarnArts Summer Youth Theatre Institute 2013 is staging the 1971 musical, GREASE The School Version, at 7 p.m. Aug. 16 -17 and 2 p.m. Aug. 17 -18 at Barnard's Town Hall. This play about working class teenagers by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey closed on Broadway in 1980 having had the longest (at that time) Broadway run in history. Says Wikipedia: The school version removes all profanity, and lewd behavior. It is also shorter and more suitable in content for teens and subteens, but retains the fun-loving spirit and immortal songs from the Original Broadway Production that still make Grease a favorite among fans of all ages. Its themes include love, friendship, teenage rebellion, sexual exploration during adolescence, and, to some extent, class consciousness/class conflict.
In the cast in alphabetical order are Elise Ballard as Marty and Dance Captain, Ruth Bollinger as Sheila's Radio Voice, Ali Coombs as Rizzo and Teen Angel, Elliott Duncan as Scientist's Radio Voice, Adam Farinas as Sonny and Vince Fontaine.
