The Time Machine: A Scientific Romance
***ALL DATES AND TIMES FOR THE TIME MACHINE ARE SOLD OUT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!***
Hi BYT, DCist and Washingtonian readers! We hope you like puzzles!
"The Time Machine: A Scientific Romance" is an interactive, theatrical, puzzle-solving experience inspired by the works of H.G. Wells.
Think of it as an interactive art installation -- or maybe a real-life video game -- or an exercise in short storytelling through audience discovery -- or a very condensed ARG (alternate reality game) -- or a promenade theater performance. Our playtesters made comparisons to "MYST" and "Twin Peaks." It's somewhere in there.
Unlike traditional theater, this experience contains minimal live acting. The story will instead be told through sets, props, sound design, video, lighting and theatrical effects. Audience members themselves will determine how everything unfolds through their own actions as they explore the environment and manipulate the objects around them to unlock the laboratory's secrets.
Puzzles range from high to low tech, incorporating lasers, blacklights and sensors that detect color and motion.
The experience is about 60 minutes long from beginning to end. Please let us know in advance if you have special needs, so that we may accommodate you.
"The Time Machine: A Scientific Romance" is presented by Science Fiction Trope Productions. The team consists of NPR audio engineer Sean Phillips, Morning Edition producer Travis Larchuk and NPR Books producer Petra Mayer, with Chad Miller and Patrick Conway.
