San Jose Youth Ballet Nutcracker 2013

The annual production of The Nutcracker will delight audiences with the story of Clara, a little girl whose much-loved Christmas gift springs to life and spirits her off to a magical land where toys and candies dance.
The production, directed by Artistic Team members Cristina McClelland, Maria Lamance, Xavier Ferla, and Maggie Parungao-Ferla, will offer a cherished memory for every viewer whether they're continuing a holiday tradition or making their very first journey to the Kingdom of Sweets.
Dance Theatre International opens its doors to healthy competitive collaborations through the San Jose Youth Ballet, its nonprofit company. The San Jose Youth Ballet Nutcracker production drew auditioners from dance academies including Ballet San Jose, Dance Theatre International, Lise la Cour Ballet, Los Gatos Recreational Ballet, Studio 10, and Yu Xin Ballet School; and from academic schools including Harker Academy, Silver Oak Elementary, James Franklin Smith, Chaboya Middle School, Evergreen Valley High School, Silver Creek High School, Evergreen Elementary, Valley Christian High School, Holy Spirit, Vale Vista Elementary, St. Francis of Tours, Carolyn Clark Elementary, Ocean Grove Charter School, and Tom Matsumoto Elementary.
The coveted role of the Sugar Plum Fairy will be danced by Emily McKinney and Angela Ma, Dance Theatre International advanced students. The talented student cast will be joined by two special guest artists as her Cavalier. Taurean Green, principal dancer with Dance Theatre of Harlem and Oakland Ballet on Dec 14th and 15th. Jekyns Pelaez, former dancer with Diablo Ballet and Oakland Ballet on Dec 7th and 8th.
