Portraiture Preview at the Project Launch Dance Festival, Plus Additional Solo Performances by Bret Easterling and Anthony Lomuljo
On Saturday, July 27th at 5 PM, Lindsey Renee Derry will preview her new solo show "Portraiture" at the Project Launch Dance Festival in Roseville, California. Also performing solo work that evening are Bret Easterling, presently with the Batsheva Dance Company, and Anthony Lomuljo, presently with the Royal Swedish Ballet. The bringing together of these three artists who received their early conservatory style training together at the Teen Dance Company of the Bay Area will be momentous!
In the fifty-minutes that Lindsey Renee Derry journeys through a shifting landscape of complex movement languages and unpredictable electronic music, a collection of moving portraits emerge. In them, a multi-faceted artist and soul is revealed. Reaching many energetic and emotional extremes, from the cool and meditative to the fiery and explosive, Derry exhibits fearlessly her many sides. In creation of this portraiture are choreographers Derry, José Navas (Montréal), Sidra Bell (New York), Alex Ketley (San Francisco), and Iratxe Ansa (Barcelona) along with video designer Erin Malley (San Francisco).
"Whether it be anger, sadness, happiness or just her existing, Lindsey has this 'dangerousness' about her...like she could explode at any moment (like she's always on the verge of being 'more'). She has a way of making me completely comfortable and completely uncomfortable all at the same time...it's a little unsettling and very addicting..."
