Manitoga Summer Cocktail
Enjoy light fare and drinks on Dragon Rock's terrace at Manitoga, the modernist home, studio and woodland garden of Russel Wright (1904-1976). 5-7pm. A guest appearance by composer and trumpeter Ben Neill with musician David Rothenberg will enliven the mid-summer's eve as they perform a duo-electro jazz set.
Free for Manitoga members; $20 donation for non-members. Reservations required. Space is limited!
Park at the public lot at 584 Route 9D and walk the Quarry Pond path up to the house and studio. Rain or shine. Please wear walking shoes.
About Ben Neill:
Composer and trumpeter, Ben Neill has been called "a creative composer and genius performer" by Time Out London. Neill's music blends influences from electronica, jazz and mimimalism. In 2010, his music theater work Persephone was presented at the BAM Next Wave Festival, and he has performed extensively in a wide variety of international settings including Lincoln Center, Spoleto Festival, Italy, Istanbul Jazz Festival and the Edinburgh Festival UK. Neill has recorded nine CDs and has been featured on numerous compilations including Wired Magazine's Music Futurists. www.benneill.com
About David Rothenberg:
David Rothenberg has written and performed on the relationship between humanity and nature for many years. He is the author of Why Birds Sing, Thousand Mile Song, and most recently, Bug Music, on insects and music. Rothenberg is also a composer and jazz clarinetist with nine CDs out under his own name.
