Experience the difference in taste between grass-fed and corn finished beef and learn where you can buy such beef, whether raised in the high sierra or on the rolling hills of Yolo County.

Hear from members of High Sierra Beef, a producer-controlled business launched in 2004 by thirty-five ranching families in El Dorado , Nevada , Placer, Plumas, Sierra and Yuba counties, who will be on hand grilling their meat, providing samples and telling us about the nutritional and environmental benefits of grass-fed beef.

For example, High Sierra Beef cattle never receive grain or grain byproducts, nor are they implanted with growth hormones or fed antibiotics and they have substantially less fat than grain-fed meat. In addition, grass-fed meat contains more beta-carotene, vitamin E and CLA, another "good" fat.

Taste flavor differences through side-by-side pairings of the same cut (sirloin, chuck, hamburger) one grass-fed, the other conventionally finished with corn and drugs. Then pair your favorite beef with Capay Valley Vineyards 2001 Syrah from Brooks in Yolo County. Winery principals Pam Welch and Tom Frederick will be pouring tasting glasses.
