Lydia Lewis Presents: Jessica Boykin-Settles A Jazzy Evening of Music Inspired by the Shenandoah Valley
Jazz vocalist Jessica Boykin-Settles presents jazz renditions of songs inspired by the beautiful Shenandoah Valley including covers of artists such as Patsy Cline and Wayne Newton, as well as original compositions.
Jessica Boykin-Settles wears many hats - vocalist, composer, arranger and educator. She began her musical journey at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts under the tutelage of Davey Y. Yarborough. She went on to pursue an undergraduate degree in Jazz Performance at The New School University in New York City where she had the opportunity to study with great musicians and jazz legends such as Reggie Workman, Junior Mance, Cecil McBee, Arnie Lawrence, Buster Williams, Sheila Jordan, Janet Lawson and Teri Thornton. Jessica continued her jazz education at Howard University where she earned a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies. While there, she was a member of Howard's premier vocal jazz ensemble Afro Blue, under the direction of Connaitre Miller.
