Cherish the Ladies with special guest Cathie Ryan
For over 25 years, since a one-off concert celebrating the emergence of female performers in the previously male-dominated field of Irish traditional music, Cherish the Ladies has become of the most endearing and enduring groups on the Irish music scene and is often cited as the premiere band to emerge from American soil. Under the leadership of founding member, the dynamic and irrepresible flute and tin whistle virtuoso, the Ladies feature fiddle, accordion, guitar, mandolin, banjo and keyboards and for this performance will include a couple Irish stepdancers and as special guest, the return of their original lead singer, Cathie Ryan, whose solo career has firmly established her as one of leading interpreters of traditional and contemporary Irish song, an ever-growing reputation as a notable songwriter and consumate performer that the Wall Street Journal hailed as 'a revelation.' The Ladies have released 15 acclaimed albums, all to rave reviews, and this past March had their first PBS Special aired - 'An Irish Homecoming.' The Boston Globe declared, 'It is simply impossible to imagine an audience that wouldn't enjoy what they do' and the New York Times noted, 'Expands the annals of Irish music in America - the music is passionate, tender and rambunctious.'
