Jack Williams in Concert
The Marshall Grange is privileged to present a performance by long time folk legend Jack Williams on Friday June 21 beginning at 7:30 pm.

Jack is a troubadour, a man of the folk.  Starting out in Nashville as a song writer in the 1960's, Jack gave up the corporate life to take to the road in a variety of roles from beatnik trumpeter and folk revivalist banjo/mandolin player to country-rock steel-guitar player and chamber music arranger.  In his travels he worked with notables like his long time friends Mickey Newbury and the late Harry Nilsson, and did guitar duties for John Lee Hooker and Big Joe Turner.  But in the end, the troubadour won out and Jack returned to what he loves best, playing solo, going from gig to gig, singing songs and telling tales of his travels.

In the course of a show, Jack lets you know who he is and where he is from with songs and autobiographical sketches.   He talks about his hometown of Columbia, South Carolina, the people and the culture; his mother, father, the nanny he never properly thanked for being there, the poets and the people of his hometown. Like the troubadours of old, his fame is among those who have been within the sound of his voice, and many have.  Jack has toured in Europe, played the major folk venues, has been a featured performer at the prestigious music festivals, but yet still prefers the intimacy of small venues like the Marshall Grange.  You can learn more about Jack and check out his music and videos at www.jackwilliamsmusic.com.

Jack is known to end many of his concerts with an improvised on the spot uncontrolled sentimental journey through his musical past, sometimes lasting up to 45 minutes.  We are hoping that the intimate setting of the Marshall Grange will inspire one of these unique performances.  The Marshall Grange is located at 4940 Marshall Road, in Garden Valley.  Driving directions may be found at www.marshallgrange.org.  For further information call 530-642-8671
