Unapologetic! A Poetry Showcase of Radical Self Love.
Unapologetic! A Poetry Showcase of Radical Self Love.

Write Now Poetry Society and The Body is Not An Apology have teamed up to bring you, Unapologetic! A Poetry Showcase of Radical Self Love.  This firestorm of words brings together some of the most talented and highly acclaimed performance poets in the world, sharing their "lawless language" with a Los Angeles audience for one night only. The evening will set eight renegade tongues loose with poems of body, identity, humanity and ultimately the possibility of Radical Unapologetic Self Love!  The show features poetry superstars: Andrea Gibson (featured on the BBC, Air America, C-SPAN, Free Speech TV), Rachel Mckibbens (New York Foundation for the Arts poetry fellow and author of the critically acclaimed, Pink Elephant), Mayda Del Valle (original cast member of the Tony award winning Def Poetry Jam on Broadway, National Poetry Slam Champion) ), Mindy Nettifee (Pushcart Prize nominee and Director of Write Now Poetry Society) Natalie Illum (featured on NPR's Snap Judgment & founding board member of  DC women's spokenword organization, Mothertongue), Jeremy Radin  (co-host of Lightbulb Mouth Radio Hour and author of Slow Dance with Sasquatch), Danez Smith (Cave Canem Fellow, 2-time Pushcart Nominee,  2011 Individual World Poetry Slam finalist), Franny Choi (National Poetry Slam, the Individual World Poetry Slam, and the Women of the World Poetry Slam finalist) and  hosted by Sonya Renee (National and International Poetry Slam Champion, Activist and founder of The Body is Not An Apology).  Come ready to weep, holler, double over in laughter but mostly, come ready to experience the transformative power of poetry and unapologetic radical human love!

Write Now Poetry Society is a 510c3 nonprofit organization, co-founded in 2007 by actress/author Amber Tamblyn and poet Mindy Nettifee.  Write Now is dedicated to finding ways to connect audiences and readers with great poets, and championing the kind of heart-breaking soul-easing mind-blowingly good poetry that knows a jugular when it sees one.

The Body is Not An Apology is a global movement focused on radical self-love and body empowerment. We believe that discrimination, social inequality and injustice are manifestations of our inability to make peace with the body, our own and others. Through education, personal transformation projects and community building, The Body is Not An Apology fosters global, radical, unapologetic self-love which translates to radical human action in service toward a more just and compassionate world.
