Megan Adams Dance announces their summer independent dance performance at Hamlin Park Field House Theater, 3035 N. Hoyne Ave. July 11th & 12th, 2013. The program, Surge, includes Feminine Globalization: I Commodity and Infringe by Megan Adams Dance with excerpts Clarity Unraveled by Creative Nests and Hearts of Steel by Through the Body. Surge is Thursday July 11th and Friday July 12th at 7:30 pm.

Megan Adams Dance is presenting the original work, Feminine Globalization: I Commodity. This piece is the first installment in a series of works delving into the growing trend of the globalization of women. The first piece within the sequence holds a critical eye to the commodity of feminine labor across cultures and spanning generations. The four core female dancers; Christine DeAlba, Jackie Kinasz (Trista Greco, understudy), Stephanie Williams and Megan Adams, delve into their own personal path juxtaposing their girlhood perspective with the contemporary world they find themselves in as young women. These two worlds of individual feminine perspective and the variance of global feminine commodity intertwine together on stage. The movement carries the viewer through the everyday tasks, endurance and struggle that is feminine existence.

Infringe is a new work by Megan Adams Dance showcasing the dancing talents of Christine DeAlba, Trista Greco, Stephanie Williams and Megan Adams. Infringe examines the ever growing inequality in wealth disbursement. The dancers breathe life into the endless graphs and numbers that represent this global crisis. This work brings the humanity of these incomprehensible numbers to the stage.

Creative Nests is presenting a new work in progress, Clarity Unraveled (Excerpt). This piece is in its very early stages of development, bringing the two producers, Jackie Kinasz and Shari Simpson together to work collaboratively as choreographers and dance partners. It explores and deconstructs the duet form, inspired by the physicality of movement and what happens when two individuals with different movement styles come together to create one unit.

Through the Body presents an except of Hearts of Steel, which was inspired by the book, The Alchemist. This book describes the idea that  everyone has a personal legend and  pathway of life we take to get there. Often times, the pathway becomes interrupted and we never meet our personal legend. This work focuses on the pathway rather than the destination.  The four performers examine their life timeline and listen to the voice inside their heart to guide them through the space.

Megan Adams has been creating new original dance works within the Chicago area since her graduation from Columbia College Chicago in 2009. She has been invited to perform her works at Counter Balance III and Stage 773. She has performed under the professional direction of Margaret Morris, Stephanie Williams, and Trisha Brown under rehearsal director  Mariah Maloney. Adams' process is a collaborative one pulling from the unique talents and experiences of her dancers. Adams' work brings common and uncommon  threads to the stage to pair it with a personal, intimate elegance.

Creative Nests, established in 2011, is co-produced by Jackie Kinasz and Shari Simpson. Shari and Jackie met at Columbia College Chicago where Shari received a BFA in Teaching and Jackie received a BA in Dancemaking with a minor in Environmental Science. Creative Nests started off as a performance outlet for emerging artists in Chicago. Artists were able to investigate and present their work while Creative Nests handled the administrative side. Through this mission, they have curated 2 annual artist showcases allowing 13 Chicago choreographers the opportunity to present their work.

Choreographer, Stephanie Williams is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago with a BFA in teaching dance. She currently teaches at Barre Bee Fit and the University Club of Chicago. Under professional direction she has performed in works by Twyla Tharp, Beth McNeil, Paige Cunningham, Megan Adams and Matthew Hollis. Williams co produced Presentation of Reverberation in 2009 and has continued to produce shows with Megan Adams Dance, including Forgotten Shades and Surface Stained. Through the Body will be showing an excerpt of their evening length work Hearts of Steel which will be presented in their show, Tense, October 3 and 4, 2013 at the Hamlin Park Field House.

Surge presented by Megan Adams Dance is Thursday, July 11th and Friday, July 12th at 7:30 pm. The program includes Feminine Globalization: I Commodity  and Infringe by Megan Adams Dance with excerpts Clarity Unraveled by Creative Nests and Hearts of Steel by Through the Body.
