> > Solo Sundays: Hilarious, Heartbreaking & Provocative Solo Performances
Solo Sundays, S.F.'s premier monthly showcase, presents select samplings of veteran virtuosos and top emerging talent in the intimate StageWerx Theatre in The Mission. Beyond stand-up and storytelling, solo theater creates casts of thousands - plus special effects - all bursting from a single performer. The results are hilarious and heartbreaking, passionate and provocative, ablaze with personal visions.
Her father watches Fox news and listens to Rush Limbaugh simultaneously. Her mother wishes Laurie would stop rebelling and find a good church. Her parents would be much easier to love if they were even just the tiniest bit agnostic, liberal and open-minded. As it stands now, Laurie wonders not just how she'll feel, but if she'll feel when they die. What happens when she's suddenly faced with the very real possibility of losing them both?
He's living on the edge of skid row, working as a yard clerk on the railroad. His best friend makes a living threatening to "kill" balloon puppies. A yearn to wander is fueled by hobo stories; dive bar drunks, IWW radicals and a west bound freight train. An education like this you can't get in the best universities.
"The Failure Series: Live Podcast Launch"
In an attempt to flee herself and her failings, a Theater Artist has finally found a Project with Real Integrity: a new podcast about other people's selves and their failings. It's the live taping of the inaugural episode, and other than an inexplicably absent host (the show's creator/Theater Artist, who has left her last-minute replacement with a stack of notes and instructional text messages), a couple of uncooperative guest artists (who wander offstage mid-interview, launch into bad poetry, and engage in underage drinking), and some dying person offstage, what could go wrong? Welcome to The Failure Series.
