Description
On her newest CD, Violin Caliente, Susan Jones offers up some great swinging jazz violin with a Latin flavor. In fact all but two of the songs on the CD have been composed by Jones. In an interview she says: You might wonder how a nice Jewish girl from the Bronx ended up writing so many Latin, and Salsa tunes. As an explanation, Susan Jones relates that this was the result of a scheduling error in the ninth grade. After requesting French and Orchestra, I was assigned Spanish and Band. The rest is history.

As a versatile free-lance violinist in the Washington D.C. area, Susan Jones plays styles ranging from classical to jazz, with many stops along the way, including: rock, country, klezmer and mariachi. She currently plays with groups as diverse as the Machaya Klezmer Band, Silver String Quintet (classical); Mariachi De las Compadres; and Jane Doe (rock). She has also performed with many high profile artists ranging from Aretha Franklin, to Andrew White, to Robert Plant. Susan has brought her classical music to Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and the National Gallery of Art Terrace Cafe. Her jazz venues include the One Step Down, the Corcoran Jazz Series and Blues Alley. A graduate of the University of Maryland, she has worked as a full-time musician since 1978.

Susan Jones has released 3 CDs: Violin Dreams in 1999, Nuts and Bolts with popular area clarinetist Seth Kibel in 2004, and most recently "Violin Caliente." Her CD is receiving airplay on WPFW/89.3 FM and WRNR/103.1.
