Rad, Rad Summer M.A.K.E. Full Week Camp (Aug 5-9)

WHAT IS M.A.K.E. ANYWAY?

M.A.K.E  Program Details:

M.A.K.E. is an acronym for our teaching philosophy.

"M" stands for Materials; we expose the students to various and surprising materials. "A" is for Attitude; we expect students and teachers to have a positive Attitude and an open mind. "K" represents Knowledge; we feel that students teach us as much as we teach them so we share Knowledge during camp. Last is "E" for Environment; we believe when students are set free in this environment they surprise themselves with what they are able to MAKE.

M.A.K.E. work sessions are presented in an open studio format consisting of stations where kids can imagine, explore, and create! In a M.A.K.E class there are no limits to the ideas and innovations that can be sparked as different artists, scientists and students collide. During the M.A.K.E sessions students will be introduced to new ideas through innovative arts and sciences integrations while using imaginative thinking and process based learning techniques. We value the process over the product so kids feel save to explore, to fail and to try again. What they make is up to them, but they will have a variety of mediums to consider  including the basics: (paint, glue, tape, paper, etc) and various found objects: (fabric, wood, plastic, sculpture wire, reused items, etc) they may also have access to tools like digital cameras, computers, animation software, a stage area, costumes, and so much MORE*!!! Watch as their imaginations come to life!. We may explore techniques in fine art, music, science, and/or movement/performing arts during each session; we follow where the kids lead.

Parents are always welcome to pop in and join the fun!

Our Teachers: Each class will have one main teacher who will always be present.  We will also have various guest teachers joining us at different times throughout the class, session or camp; these teachers will share their talents, tools and techniques offering a fresh spin each day.  Art(s)cool PDX works with various teaching artists and scientists from the Portland Metro Area. Our teachers are all different; they can be professionals in their field, certified teachers or practicing artists/scientists. All of our teachers have between two and fifteen years of experience working with youth. Our teachers are contractors and work Art(s)cool PDX and with various schools, organizations and as private instructors. Our teachers are qualified using our M.A.K.E philosophy. Our teachers are all background checked through PPS.
