Aceyalone & Boinik with Secret Stash's Sonny Knight and The Lakers
Aceyalone, the legendary emcee and founding member of seminal rap groups Freestyle Fellowship, Haiku D'Etat and Project Blowed, has announced the follow-up to 2009's Aceyalone & The Lonely Ones, titled Leanin' on Slick. Since his formative days of battling at the Good Life Cafe circa 1989, Aceyalone is a forefather of the West Coast underground rap scene that spawned the emergence and success of groups like The Pharcyde, Jurassic 5 and his own Freestyle Fellowship, whose 1993 record Innercity Griots is an undeniable classic of the genre. Leanin' moves on from the doo-wop tones of Lonely Ones in favor of jazz and funk influenced beats to support his signature tight rhymes and bouncing-ball flow. Out May 28 on Decon, the album features 13 dynamic tracks produced by frequent collaborator BIONIK, as well as Daniel Merriweather, Treasure Davis and, most notably, singer Cee Lo Green.
Stefon BIONIK Taylor is a producer, engineer, songwriter and musician who grew up in Minneapolis and began playing music at 12 years old. He started his professional career at Chicago Recording Company under the mentorship of Grammy award winning mix engineer/producer Peter Mokran (R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, Flaming Lips) working with artists such as R. Kelly, Aliyah, The Winans Family, Smashing Pumpkins, Izzy Straddlin, Sting, James Cotton, John Martyn and Junior Wells. BIONIK then moved to Boston where he continued to develop his musical abilities both in the studio and on stage, recording and performing live with many artists including ED O.G., Tamara Savage, Lady Saw, Everton Blender, Johnny Osborne and Frankie Paul. After relocating to Los Angeles, he engineered and produced projects for Far East Movement, Ice-T, Too Short, Aceyalone, Ras Kass, Kool Keith, Volume 10, Griffen, MC Zulu, Baby Bash and Lil' Rob. BIONIK currently resides in Minneapolis and recently produced a record for Mr. Gene Poole, The God Particle, released in March 2013. Leanin' on Slick, the third full-length album he has produced for Aceyalone, drops May 28th on Decon.
