The jury is still out on the safety of consuming foods made from genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or containing GMO ingredients. This is why over 60 countries around the world -- including China, India, Russia, and the EU -- have enacted labeling laws or bans on GMO foods. Americans, however, have been consuming GMOs without their knowledge or consent since 1996 because the FDA doesn't believe we should have the right to know what's in our food and make informed choices when we buy food for ourselves and families.
In the absence of a federal mandate, many states are now working to pass their own GMO labeling legislation, New York State included. Assembly Bill A3525 and Senate Bill S3835 are currently sitting in committee awaiting consideration due in part to the work of GMO Free NY. But now we need your support so that we can continue our statewide constituent and legislator outreach to push these bills out of committee and to a floor vote in each house before the current legislative session ends on June 20th. We've got 4 weeks to get this done and we need your help to do it!
If you can't make the event but would still like to contribute to our campaign efforts, please consider buying a ticket (or several) anyway. Your generous support will be most appreciated and put to good use.
PLEASE NOTE: All ticket contributions are final. This is NOT a tax-deductible contribution. 100% of the net proceeds will go to GMO Free NY to support their campaign.
GMO Free NY is a grassroots volunteer advocacy group whose mission is to empower New Yorkers to help get these bills passed by June 2013!
