Maria Grazia Affinito // Eating Pasta off the Floor
Eating Pasta off the Floor-West Coast Premiere
Does your mother try to sell you off at the local supermarket? Don't get me wrong, I love my mother, although I was just committed for trying to shoot her. But maybe singing arias at full voice in the supermarket and offering to sell your daughter are just quaint Old World traditions. I hope that going back to my mom's home town in Italy will shed some light on our relationship. After all, it can't be worse than, "This is my daughter, she is blonde, blue eye, she look so American, you want to buy? I sell... I sell..." This is a story of growing up in an immigrant poor family, plagued by violence and trauma, while facing the generational conflicts unique to mothers and their daughters.
