Janiva Magness - Saturday, July 20, 2013 Magness is among the premier blues and R&B singers in the world today. Her voice possesses an earthy, raw honesty born from her life experience. A charismatic performer known for her electrifying live shows, Magness is a gutsy and dynamic musical powerhouse.
She received the coveted 2009 Blues Music Award for B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year (she is only the second woman to ever win this award, Koko Taylor being the first). She also won Contemporary Blues Female Artist Of The Year, an honor she also received in 2006 and 2007. She has received a total of seventeen Blues Music Award nominations, including one for 2012's Contemporary Blues Female Artist Of The Year. USA Today declared, "Magness is a blues star," and The Philadelphia Inquirer said, "Magness sings superbly, with a scorching intensity."
Dave Alvin and the Guilty Ones - Friday, July 19, 2013 Describing his own music, Dave Alvin says:" "There are two types of folk music: quiet folk music and loud folk music. I play both!
Since forming the highly influential roots rock/R+B band The Blasters, with his brother Phil in 1979, and throughout his long and critically acclaimed solo career, Dave Alvin has mixed his varied musical and literary influences into his own unique, updated version of traditional American music. Combining elements of blues, folk, R+B, rockabilly, Bakersfield country and garage rock and roll with lyrical inspiration from local writers and poets like Raymond Chandler, Gerald Locklin and Charles Bukowski, Alvin says that his songs are "just like California.
Lloyd Jones - Thursday, July 18, 2013 After forming and playing in numerous bands, including teaming up blues harpist & singer Curtis Salgado, in 1985, he formed the Lloyd Jones Struggle, shifting the repertoire slightly to accommodate traditional blues and contemporary New Orleans funk.
With Struggle, Jones attained a good following and also attracted critical approval, winning more than 20 Muddy Awards from the Cascades Blues Association.
Although Jones remains based in the Pacific Northwest, he has also played at prestigious events such as the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the Western Maryland Blues Festival and has toured Australia.
This pass also includes the Rendezvous Chamber Orchestra Concert on Sunday, July 22!
