Leaping Waters Farm Feast in the Fields
Leaping Waters Farm and the Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture are teaming up this Memorial Day Weekend to host a party in Elliston, Virginia.
The farm is donating half a steer, three hogs, a lamb and some geese to roast in the field over wood fires. Overseeing the cooking are some of the finest chefs in the Southeast. Michael Sullivan, the "Reverend of Fat", the butcher at Blackberry Farm is organizing a crew of good friends and fellow chefs including Food and Wine's Best New Chef 2011, James Lewis of Bettola and Vittorio in Birmingham, AL, Colin Donnelly of the Red Rooster in Lexington, VA, Jason Alley from Pasture and Comfort in Richmond. A number of a chefs from our favorite local haunts are coming too, so this promises to be a food lovers dream.
There will be beer and wine tastings and glasses for sale to pair with the food. This is a family event however, so let's stay classy.
We have a large pond to swim and fish in, several bluegrass bands set to play and acres of field and forest for you to explore. Pony rides will be available during the event so kids wishing to ride should bring a pair of long pants to change into.
Please bring folding chairs, sun canopies and umbrellas, bathing suits, fishing roads, sunscreen and a VERY BIG APPETITE!
Please do not bring your pets as we are a working farm. This is a one of a kind opportunity to enjoy food from world class chefs and support a local farm.
