JC Fowlie, Mayor of Shaniko and cashier of the Eastern Oregon Banking Co. was shot dead in the streets of town by Del Howell, after suggesting that Mr. Howell retire to bed as he appeared to be drunk. Imagine this scene playing out and many others from the days of wild pioneer life as we visit Central Oregon's famous 19th Century boom towns, stopping along other glorious sites and ruins of Oregon's past. KYC is excited to repeat our popular field trip for adults offered only once this summer, July 20-21.

Join Keith May, author of Ghosts of Times Past: A Road Trip of Eastern Oregon Ghost Towns (Drigh Sighed, 1998) for a not-to-be-missed two-day bus tour of ghost towns of Central Oregon, including:

- guided stops at the long-forgotten boom towns of Boyd, Dufur, Friend, Shaniko and Antelope- an overnight stay in the town of Mitchell
- a short hike through the spectacular Painted Hills, where you can witness layers of time, formed when the area was an ancient river
- more TBD!
