Stephanie Chou's compositions combine classical and Chinese music with jazz harmonies, and feature her earthy voice and warm alto saxophone sound. Growing up in Irvington, New York, Chou studied mathematics at Columbia University. In 2011, she released her first jazz album, Prime Knot, which features Marcus Printup (Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra) on trumpet. In 2012, she premiered her first commission for ballet, entitled "C for G", at Goucher College, Maryland. The piece was choreographed by American Ballet Theater principle ballerina Susan Jaffe, and features Kenny Wollesen on percussion and vibraphone.

In November 2011 and September 2012, Chou led a quintet in several performances of her original music in Taipei, Taiwan and Beijing, China.  She has performed throughout New York City at venues including Carnegie Hall,  B.B. King's, Miller Theater, Shea Stadium, Drom, The Knitting Factory, and in the atrium at Jazz at Lincoln Center, as well as in Italy, New Orleans, and Chicago. During the summer of 2007, Chou extensively explored the developing Beijing, China music scene.

Steph continues to live and perform around New York City. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in composition from the City College of New York. She has worked at ArtistShare, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Second Floor Music, and Bob Dylan Music Management in the past. She is currently working on a second album with the band performing tonight.
