Summer Wine Tasting
Simply put, the wines of Alsace epitomize purity of fruit and emphasize on clear and vivid varietal character, elegance, affordability, and equal ease with food or on its own. Dominated by white varietals, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Muscat and Pinot Blanc, it is no surprise that the region is responsible for some 20% of French white wine, but it may surprise some that Alsace increasingly is turning its attention to Pinot Noir and sparkling wine as well. When this diversity of grapes interacts with the multitude of local soil types, the resultant panopoly of wine styles ensures that there is something to please everybody. Of course, to round out our "best of" list of summer wine favorites, we'll be throwing in some other selections from around the world for all of your grilling, barbecue and general summer merriment needs.
