Crimes Vinyl Release show w/Rupert AngelEyes
10:30pm doors/11pm show time 21+
Minneapolis garage-pop quartet Crimes returns with Thin Sunlight. The band's sophomore album finds them carefully synthesizing pop sensibilities and sprawling soundscapes and expanding on the ethereal dual-vocal interplay that has come to define their sound. The record highlights songwriter Andrew Jansen's knack for crafting the cryptic and witty lyrical content that ultimately serves as a vehicle for his and bassist/vocalist Hannah Fraser's delicate melodies. Recorded at Ali Jafaar's Ecstattic Studios in the winter of 2012, Thin Sunlight is a record of contrast and balancebetween chaos and harmony, tension and release, understatement and excess.
"Local four-piece Crimes does something a bit tricky, taking garage-surfa famously accessible styleand combining it with ambient, a less populist breed of pop. That formula results in a droning artiness, but one with enough sticky pop flare to go down easy; it's the indie version of the ol' spoonful of sugar trick."
