826michigan Presents the Fourth Annual Storymakers Dinner!
Join writing and tutoring center 826michigan and acclaimed author Deb Olin Unferth for an evening of good company and great stories at the Fourth Annual Storymakers Dinner, a benefit for the organization's free programs reaching 2,500 students in Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, and Detroit. The dinner will be held at the Zingerman's Roadhouse on Wednesday, June 5, and will feature a Venezuelan-inspired menu by James Beard Award-winning Chef Alex Young.

Deb Olin Unferth is the author of Vacation, a novel published by McSweeney's, and the memoir Revolution: The Year I Fell In Love and Went to Join the War (a finalist for the 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award).  She is a two-time recipient of the Pushcart Prize and currently teaches creative writing at Wesleyan University.

This year's event will also include a special appearance by former 826michigan student Saif Ghanem, whose essay "The Story of My Life" was included in the 826 National publication Be Honest, And Other Advice from Students Around the Country. Ghanem is a graduate of Huron High School by way of Iraq and Jordan. He is currently applying to study at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.

"We are honored to be joined by Deb Olin Unferth and by Saif Ghanem for our Fourth Annual Storymakers Dinner," says 826michigan Executive Director Amanda Uhle. "Both have attracted notice for their skill with nonfiction -- Deb with her memoir of coming of age by running off to Nicaragua, and Saif with his poignant and honest take on emigrating to the United States as a teenager. We look forward to celebrating these stories and the thousands more, both truthful and fanciful, that 826michigan students will write in the coming year."

826michigan is a nonprofit organization serving 2,500 youth aged 6-18 in Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, and Detroit with free creative writing and tutoring programs. To learn more about 826michigan and its volunteer-driven services for youth, please visit 826michigan.org or call (734) 761-3463.

The Fourth Annual Storymakers Dinner is presented with support from Zingerman's Roadhouse, OgMog Creative, Third Mind Books, Print-Tech Inc, and Thomson-Shore.
