Share this event:

Pima Library Foundation and the Circle of Book Clubs invites you to a stimulating literary evening with Cathy Marie Buchanan, author of The Painted Girls.

The Painted Girls looks at life on the stage in 1880s Paris. Facing dire poverty following the sudden death of their father, the van Goethem sisters must find work. Marie trains for the ballet and poses for Edgar Degas, her image immortalized in Little Dancer Aged Fourteen. Antoinette finds work as an extra in a stage adaptation of Emile Zola's L'Assommoir. As the novel brilliantly unfolds, each girl will be confronted by the darker temptations of "civilized" society and ultimately realize that salvation and survival can only lie with each other.

The evening will include, An Introduction to Degas, a special presentation by Stevie Mack of CRIZMAC Art & Cultural Marketplace.
