Spring Sing!
Piedmont Choirs presents its annual Spring Sing! on Saturday, June 1 at 3 p.m. at the Oakland Interstake Center. Hear the children of the world-renowned choir sing selections from traditional and contemporary repertoire, and a Bay Area premiere by Anne Hege, choir alumna and composer. The concert showcases each of the four Performing Department groups, followed by the six Training Department groups singing together. A brief and poignant ceremony honors this year's graduates, many of whom have sung with Piedmont East Bay Children's for more than half their lives. The entire choir of voices sings a dramatic finale. Admission is $18 general/$12 student/$30 premium reserved; tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door.
The internationally acclaimed Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir has been offering children from throughout San Francisco's East Bay an outstanding program of choral training and performance. Founded in 1982 by Suzie Rahl, the Choir has established itself as a leading force in international choral activities and contemporary music under the leadership of Artistic Director Robert Geary. International tours every summer and a keen desire to meet, collaborate, and compete with choruses and singers of other cultures have led to high marks at prestigious festivals across the world, and to the creation of the Golden Gate International Choral Festival. The Choir regularly collaborates with major Bay Area arts organizations such as the Oakland East Bay Symphony, Cal Performances, the Mark Morris Dance Company, and the Berkeley West Edge Opera. Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir is featured in the upcoming film "Songs of Defiance" a documentary about the Laulupidu song festival in Estonia and is one of the very few choirs outside of Estonia invited to participate.
