Gilgamesh: He Who Saw Everything
New World Performance Lab's new production is based on the ancient Sumerian epic  Gilgamesh.  The ensemble gives the audience an intimate and authentic experience of this timeless tale of love, friendship, grief, despair and hope.

The Center for Applied Theatre and Active Culture (CATAC)  is pleased to present the premiere of New World Performance Laboratory's production of "Gilgamesh: He Who Saw Everything" on May 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 at 8:00 pm and May 5 at 2pm in the Balch Street Theatre, 220 South Balch Street, Akron OH, 44302. Directed by NWPL Co-Artistic Director James Slowiak, set and costume design by Inda Blatch-Geib, and lighting design by Chris Hariasz, this riveting new play is based on one of humanity's oldest stories and features company members Jairo Cuesta, Justin Hale, and Debora Totti in a range of roles and performing American roots music.  Admission is $10 (2 for 1 on Thursday, May 9). Reservations can be made by calling 330-867-3299 or online at www.brownpapertickets.com

NWPL has been presenting world-class ensemble theatre in the Akron area for more than twenty years.  This latest work starkly depicts the story of the Sumerian hero Gilgamesh as he battles the gods and faces his mortality.  Humanity's oldest written story, Gilgamesh speaks strongly to us today as we face the consequences of our own arrogant destruction of the earth's resources, reassess our place in the universe, and redefine what it is to be human.  Set in a place where Travelers meet called The Threshold, the door between the beginning and the end, three actors deftly recount Gilgamesh's story, embodying numerous characters and depicting a variety of landscapes, using the company's unique physical style and the bluesy rhythms of American roots music.
