Celebrate National Poetry Month with a nationally-acclaimed poet and local special guests!
Anis Mojgani is one of only two people to win multiple National Poetry Slam Championships. He has been a TEDx speaker, an HBO Def poet, an International Slam Poetry champion, and a feature on NPR... and he's coming to Tacoma! To make the event a true celebration of National Poetry Month, he'll be joined by Puget Sound Area special guests (poets to be announced soon!).
Jeremy Radin is an actor and poet based out of Los Angeles, California. When he was 13, his mom signed him up for an after-school musical theatre program. Since then, he's been on TV (ER, Zoey 101, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, etc.), films (The New World, Wrestlemaniac, Cupid's Arrow) and done a ton of theatre (The New World: The Musical, Wrestlemaniac: The Musical, Fiddler on the Roof: The Musical).
"Mighty" Mike McGee is an international spoken word artist, writer, performer, speaker, slam poet and comic. He holds titles as the 2006 Individual World Poetry Slam Champion and the 2003 National Poetry Slam Individual Grand Champion. His "stand-up poetry" has been written about in Writer's Digest magazine, and been featured on NPR, HBO and CBC.
Karen Finneyfrock is a poet, novelist and teaching artist in Seattle, WA. Her young adult novel, The Sweet Revenge of Celia Door, was published by Viking Children's Books in 2013. Her second book of poems, Ceremony for the Choking Ghost, was released on Write Bloody press in 2010. She is a former Writer-in-Residence at Richard Hugo House in Seattle and teaches for Seattle Arts and Lectures' Writers-in-the-Schools program.
Also taking the stage is Kye Alfred Hillig, a Tacoma musician with nearly two decades of songwriting under his belt. Hillig debuted his first solo album, "Aurora", in April 2012. In February, he showed versatility and depth with his sophomore release "Together Through It All." He has been declared a "favorite local artist" by online magazine Post Defiance. Hillig will be joined by Emily Ann Peterson, vocalist and cellist for Goldfinch.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. This is a not-for-profit event, and all ticket sales go toward paying the artists.
This is an all-ages event and non-alcoholic beverages are included in your ticket price. Beer/wine available with ID. Doors open at 6:30pm, event starts at 7pm.
Anis Mojgani will do signings following the event as time allows.
