| Description |
Brazil has the distinction of producing the best guitar duos. From the legendary Duo Abreu to the amazing Assad Brothers, the tradition continues with the Brasil Guitar Duo. With this statement, famed virtuoso Paulo Bellinati christened this young ensemble, charted its lineage and proclaimed its place in the guitar universe, a position further solidified by the Brasil Guitar Duo with victories at the 2006 Concert Artists Guild International Competition and major competitions in Brazil and Germany. Joo Luiz and Douglas Lora met in So Paulo as guitar students and have been performing together for over ten years, perfecting a sublime synchronicity and effortless performance style. The duo has toured extensively across Brazil including concerto performances with the Orquestra Jovem Tom Jobim and the Orquestra Municipal de Braganca. The Brasil Guitar Duo has developed an extensive repertoire of classical guitar duos (Bach, Sor, Scarlatti), and in recent years has broadened its aesthetic to encompass the traditional music of its native land such as samba, maxixe, choro and baio. In this way, the players are not only ambassadors for the guitar but also for the sounds of Brazil.
