SYP Teen: "Alice in Wonderland"
TEEN THEATRE CAMP (Grades 6-12)
July 1-25, 2013 (No camp July 3-5)
PLUS SIX PERFORMANCES
July 26 - Aug 4, 2013
Spend the Summer in WONDERLAND!
This Summer Youth Production (SYP) day camp is an opportunity for teens entering grades 6-12 to participate in all aspects of a theatrical production. The journey begins with an acting workshop that prepares and casts campers in their roles (all campers will be assigned a role).
The single cast ensemble will then dig into the text, using the script as a platform, to strengthen theatrical skills in preparation for the culmination of camp, six performances of a fully-realized production for friends, family and the general public at Lakeshore Players.
This full production is complete with an original set, professional lighting, sound, costumes, and memories that last a lifetime! Along the way, there will be games, tips, and all the humor, action, and excitement a journey to Wonderland brings.
A WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR, AARON RADATZ
I am drawn to youth theatre by the possibilities it presents. Increasingly, students are "molded" by learning institutions, tasked with learning rote facts and reproducing them on command. As an educator, I can certainly appreciate the need for common, basic knowledge in the classroom, but what I fear gets neglected--and what I strive to carve out time for in my work--is space for personal connection, for storytelling, for complicated questions and messy answers. "Alice" represents all of those things. In Wonderland, logic takes a backseat to experience. Rules are made, broken, remade, and broken again. That landscape of change and possibility is what drew me to the play. What these young actors--and our audience--will find within is what keeps me there.
